The Country-life Loop featurings stops at diverse sites characteristic of life in the country. This 15-mile loop is especially suited for those wanting a short leisurely ride. On this ride, you may stop and enjoy: 1. An Amish-owned and operated bike shop. 2. At the halfway point, an Amish farm with a tour of an old barn still used like the old days. You might see a farmer shoeing horses. 3. Shipshewana Lake with a short presentation by a trained naturalist about the wetlands area. 4. The Chief Shipshewana Monument. 5. Ride past the spot where the Pumpkinvine Trail will be built, hopefully in 2010. 6. Visit a historically famous, round barn. Please note: The 15-mile loop has one short, moderately fast downhill with a moderate uphill, just before the sag stop. To novice bicyclists: You must have a bicycle in good repair as well as know how to handle a bicycle under these conditions. If you choose to ride the Country Life Loop park at the Shipshewana soccer field pavilion, click on when & where for directions. Day of the ride registration for the Country Life Loop will be available at the pavilion. This loop will have a sag and restrooms at the pavilion. There will be a mini-sag and restroom at the halfway mark -- at the Amish farm. Pie and ice cream will be served at the pavilion at the end of the ride. |
