Friends Policy for Use of the Pumpkinvine Trial by Equestrians

  • Current plans and funding will build a paved trail on the Pumpkinvine corridor for use by bicyclists, walkers, roller bladers, etc.
  • Friends board of directors has been an advocate for a separate treadway for horses within the corridor. However, since the management of the developed trail will be the responsibility of Goshen Parks and Recreation Department, Elkhart County Parks, Middlebury Parks Board and the Town of Shipshewana, design and construction of a horse trail in the future will require their approval.
  • The Pumpkinvine corridor is not open to for equestrian use. The corridor surface is rough, may contain holes, stumps, brush, ditches and other obstacles and hazards. In addition, several bridges in the Pumpkinvine corridor are not safe for crossing by horses.
