Friends of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, Inc. purchased the Pumpkinvine railroad corridor in 1993 and are donating the land to local park departments
when design and engineering are ready for trail construction.
The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail is connected to the Maple City Greenway in Goshen and will be connected to the MapleHeart Trail by Autumn 2011. You can see from the Trail Availability page on this website that three sections of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail plus the MapleHeart Trail are already open for public use.
Friends' role in the project is changing as the project progresses. Currently, Friends still own a few sections of the abandonded railroad corridor which they continue to maintain. Additional responsibilities of Friends are:

The managing agencies above and Friends of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail have formed an oversight committee , the Pumpkinvine Advisory Committee, to carryout the following objectives:
The Pumpkinvine Advisory Committee is developing a volunteer program for interested parties to help with: 1) monitoring activities on the trail, 2) routine trail maintenance and 3) occasional work such as cleaning up storm damage and special trail enhancement projects.
