About the Pumpkinvine Bike Ride

Start location

The routes described below use combinations of county roads and the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail as shown on the map below. On ride day you will receive maps with our suggested rides as outlined in the tables below the map.Bicyclists riding on the trail with barn in background.

You must specify on your registration form whether you plan to start at Goshen or Shipshewana. The information below will help you decide where to start. Maps showing the start locations, Abshire Park in Goshen and the Shipshewana Flea Market, are available on our When & Where page.

Rides from Abshire Park in Goshen

All rides from Abshire Park start on 5.2-miles of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail. Then you will ride 1.75 miles on county roads before entering a 1.4 mile section of trail. The trail crosses a wooden trestle bridge and you might see bison in the pasture south of the bridge. When you reach the northeast end of the trail you will continue into Middlebury on county roads.

10.2-Mile Trail Ride - If you want to ride the 10.2-Mile Trail Ride you must start at Abshire Park. At County Road 33 you will turn around and return to Abshire Park. You will be served food and drinks, including pie and ice cream, at Abshire Park.

Rides starting from Shipshewana Flea Market

The 21-mile ride from Shipshewana Flea Market is entirely on county roads. The remaining rides from Shipshewana Flea Market use a combination of county roads and sections of the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail.

13-Mile Trail Ride - The 13-Mile Trail Ride will start at the Shipshewana Flea Market and use 0.9 mile of roads to reach the trail. You will turn around at the end of the trail in Middlebury and retace the route to Shipshewana Flea Market. This ride does not reach the SAG at River Bend Park in Middlebury. You will be served foods and drinks, including pie and ice cream, at the Shipshewana Flea Market.

Middlebury to Shipshewana route change

The Middlebury to Shipshewana route is changed to avoid trail construction from York Drive to the Dairy Queen and also the resurfacing of Main St. in Middlebury. The new route will pass through Krider Nurseries World’s Fair Garden and use county roads as well as 3.6 miles of trail. A Pumpkin pattern Quilt Garden can be seen from the trail as you ride through Krider Garden. Before reaching Shipshewana, the route will turn off of the trail onto the scenic road around Shipshewana Lake.

100-Mile routes

If you plan to ride 100 miles you may start at Abshire Park or Shipshewana Flea Market. You will ride all of the routes shown on the map below.

You may click on the red text of Goshen, Middlebury, Emma or Shipshewana on the map below to learn more about the towns.
